Endangered
Endangered is a 2D Puzzle Platformer in which you control two forest critters that have been captured by a poacher and separated from their egg. The game starts off right after our heroes escape captivity after being sold into the black market. As such, they must reunite with each other to venture out into the forest to rescue both the other critters caught by the poacher, and their precious egg. On your adventure, make sure to constantly switch control between both critters, since only by working together, can they solve each other’s puzzles and challenges. Keep in mind that the orange and bulkier critter can pick up smaller enemies and boxes, while the blue and slim critter can jump higher and slide, which can stun smaller enemies and go through thigh spaces. We have talked about smaller enemies, but keep in mind that larger enemies cannot be picked up, and can only be stunned by being thrown smaller enemies at. The game uses hand drawn sprites and 3D backgrounds, layered with a filter that makes it look like a PlayStation game. The mixture of 3D and 2D, controlling two characters with different move sets, the transition from a man made environment into a natural one, are all made in the hopes of demonstrating aspects of “Duality” that being the theme of this year’s Global Game Jam 2022. Both in a graphical, narrative and in a gameplay sense. As so, we hope you enjoy our little project, and that it may bring you a smile as it did to us.

This is quite an awesome interesting game, the switching mechanics concept is nicely integrated here in this game. However, I find it really difficult to pass the level as the level design is not up to the mark and this is the main point you have to figure out to make this game enjoyable. Next, the movement mechanics needs to be polished more along with the controls and animation of the player. Integration of sound and such key elements are missing in this game which could have possibly played a key role in making this game feel good.
Looking forward to your upcoming projects ahead of time. All the best for your future projects.
Thank you very much for your comment.
Much of this project was a first for our group, and we are very glad you enjoyed the concept. Unfortunately, the first two levels (and the final one) had to be cut due to time constraints during the jam. Leaving new players without the necessary context and problem-solving skills required to finish the level (so yeah, your analysis was spot on).
Once again, thank you for your feedback! We will strive to do better with each project.
That's great, it would be exciting to see further cool content ahead of time.
